Al Forester, Red Sox Groundskeeper and Friend of Ted Williams, Dies

The Woburn native was a groundskeeper for the Boston Red Sox for 53 years.

Albert “Al” Forester, who famously drove his friend Ted Williams onto the field on a golf cart before the 1999 All-Star Game at Fenway Park, has died at the age of 91.

Forester, a Woburn native, died on Oct. 22 in Winchester of natural causes, according to his obituary from Lane Funeral Home.

He was a groundskeeper for the Boston Red Sox for 53 years.

He is survived by his daughter Lisa Forester from Virginia and her two children, his brother Frank Forester, and generations of loving family.

Service will be held at 10 a.m. at Lane’s Funeral Home, 760 Main St., Winchester, on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014. Burial to follow at Woodbrook Cemetery.
