Full Moon Story Time at Bookends

Bookends' story times have been drawing crowds to the bookstore all summer.

Despite the downpour that kept a lot of people cooped up on Tuesday night, August 24 from 7 – 8 p.m., Marilyn Racette hosted another one of her family-friendly story time events at Bookends.

"We usually do Wednesday morning story times," Racette said. "But we switched to Tuesday evenings during the summer. We did one last month, which we had a good turn out for. This is still a new thing we are trying though."

Once school starts the program will be reverting back to Wednesday mornings at 11 a.m. since the story time is aimed at children between one and three-year-old.

The readings change based on the children, but there are some favorite topics that are typically read.

"It really changes depending on what new releases are out, but the kids have their favorites," Racette said. "Trucks are very popular for some reason."

It may be new, but people are responding. Racette and Bookends have been sponsoring these readings all summer. The last meet up was with local children's author Jane Sutton of Lexington. Sutton read from her book, Don't Call Me Sidney.

This time around, Racette took the helm and read from a few popular children's stories, sticking with the theme of the night – the moon. She read Kitten's First Full Moon by Kevin Henkes and the classic, Goodnight Moon by Margret Wise Brown.

"We live close by so we stop in to Bookends a lot," said Winchester resident Karen Marino who was there with her two daughters. "We missed the pajama party over at the Middle School so we thought this was a perfect substitute. Unfortunately, it looks like the rain kept a lot of people away, but it's nice anyway. Bookends is really like a little gem in town for things like this."

Bookends will be hosting Warren Richey, author of the travel narrative and memoir, Without a Paddle, on September 12 at 3 p.m. Richey will be on hand to answer questions and talk about his novel.
