House Approves $200 Million in Chapter 90 Funding
Winchester could receive over $500,000 for road and bridge improvements if the the legislation is passed into law.
WINCHESTER, MA—Winchester's roads could be getting a much-needed makeover in the near future, as the House of Representatives passed legislation allowing for over $200 million in infrastructure improvements.
State Rep. Michael Day announced Tuesday that the House passed legislation that includes a $200 million bond authorization for Chapter 90 funding for local road improvements. If the bill is passed into law, Winchester would receive $527,831 for road repairs and bridge maintenance, according to Winchester Public Works Director James Gill.
“I am pleased that we in the House were able to work together with the Administration to deliver this local aid to our districts, and am especially pleased we will get this aid out in time for the construction season,” said Day in a statement. “Even with the relatively mild winter we had, there is a lot of work to be done to improve our streets. I know our DPW’s will put this money to good use and our neighborhoods will be safer as a result.”

Day also added that these funds will help the town move forward with previously planned projects.
“This funding is an important part of the package of local aid we appropriate to our towns,” said Representative Day. “We have some of the oldest roads and bridges in America, and we have to stay on top of this work to make sure our communities remain safe and attractive to our families and our businesses. This appropriation will allow Stoneham and Winchester to move forward on planned improvements and repairs.”
