New Photography Exhibits in Winchester
The exhibitions will include the work of 91-year-old photographer Erwin G. Markowitz.

Check out new photography exhibits from artists in the area at a free opening reception in Winchester on Thursday.
Featured exhibits include “Winter Solstice 2014” from Griffin Museum of Photography members, as well as the exhibits “Photographing People” and “Selections from the Archive,” according to the Griffin Museum of Photography newsletter.
The reception will take place at the Griffin Museum of Photography, 67 Shore Road, in the Main, Atelier, Griffin and Hall Galleries.

The opening reception kicks off at 6 p.m.

The exhibit “Photographing People,” curated by Harvey Stein, will be displayed in the Atelier & Griffin Galleries. The photographs in the exhibits were taken during a Griffin Museum workshop in which photographers took pictures of people along the streets of Boston.
The exhibit features photographs from Meredith Abenaim, Anne Brooks, Marion Cohen, Cynthia Cole, Anna Gemelli, Cathy Higby, Yair Melamed, Barbara Trachtenberg, Minglun Wang and Maria Zugartechea.
“Selections from the Archive” will exhibit in the Hall Gallery. The photographs of Erwin G. Markowitz, 91, features landscapes, wildlife and scenic images from across North America, Europe and Africa.
There will be a presentation by photographer Henry Horenstein following the reception at 8 p.m. Horenstein will then hold a screening of his documentary “Spoke,’ which features two-step dancing, kicking music, and interviews with Texas musicians. The short film was funded by the Annenberg Foundation and an official selection of the Austin and Alexandria Film Festivals.
Ten percent of proceeds earned during the event will be donated to the Griffin Museum of Photography, according to the newsletter.
