• Winchester Foundation for Educational Excellence kicks off Authorfest on Oct. 14 (winchesternews.org) — Authorfest 2026 is bringing authors and illustrators directly to Winchester's schools, Town Hall, and public library on Oct. 14–15, with free events for families and younger readers. You can preview visiting authors, get books signed, and enjoy activities hosted by the Winchester Foundation for Educational Excellence, all aimed at celebrating reading and creativity across town.
   

• Winchester braces for weekend of wind, heavy rain (winchesternews.org) — Winchester is in for a windy, soaking weekend, with a nor'easter expected to bring up to about 4 inches of rain and gusts near 50 mph from Friday through Monday. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, prepare for possible tree damage and outages, and keep an eye on the Aberjona River and power outage maps as the slow-moving storm lingers.
   

• Nancy Gordon Mills, 89 (theweektoday.com) — Longtime Winchester resident Nancy Gordon Mills, 89, is remembered for raising her family on Rangeley Road, serving as a Town Meeting member, and supporting the En Ka Society. She also built Mystic Valley Traders from a small Winchester storefront into a thriving business, all while cherishing family gatherings, especially the annual Thanksgiving celebrations rooted in Winchester.
