Salter Helps Lahey Raise Over $330,000 For Cancer Treatment

Nearly 100 Salter Walkers & Runners Turned Out for Annual Event

Salter HealthCare (www.salterhealthcare.com), one of Massachusetts’s most trusted leaders in rehabilitation and skilled nursing care, today announced that 90 Salter HealthCare team members turned out this past Saturday for Lahey Health’s 13th Annual 5K Cancer Walk & Run at Burlington High School, helping to raise more than $330,000. As the presenting sponsor, Salter contributed funds and staff to help raise money for cancer research, treatment and support.

Team Salter gave new meaning to “pretty in pink” donning hot pink t-shirts. Spirits were high as walkers and runners battled humidity and some scattered showers for their favorite cause. “This is an event that our staff members look forward to every year,” said Jennifer Gizmunt, Chief Executive Officer for Salter HealthCare. “It’s a time when all three of our centers can come together to laugh and have a great time, enjoy the beautiful weather and support our favorite cause. We are pleased to be a valued partner of Lahey Health and to be able to help support them in their high standards of patient care.”

Comprised of Winchester Nursing Center, Abjerona Nursing Center and Woburn Nursing Center, Salter HealthCare provides an array of services, including specialized rehabilitation and post-acute, short-term care programs for those recovering from surgery or hospitalization, comprehensive subacute care for those with acute illnesses or injury as well as long-term, respite and hospice care. Family-owned for over the past 60 years, the company remains one of the most trusted skilled nursing providers in New England.

Salter HealthCare joined over 1,400 cancer survivors, clinicians, family members and friends who walked or ran on behalf of patients who receive cancer care at a Lahey Health hospital. Every year, more than one million Americans are diagnosed with cancer, and every year, thousands of them are treated at a Lahey Health hospital. The annual walk raises funds for patient services, including patient navigation, genetic risk assessments, a cancer survivorship clinic and clinical research for patients at Addison Gilbert Hospital, Beverly Hospital, Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, Lahey Medical Center, Peabody and Winchester Hospital.

As a longtime partner of Lahey Health, Salter HealthCare has been the presenting sponsor of Lahey Health’s Annual 5K Cancer Walk & Run for the last 10 years. Collectively, over the past 12 years, over $2.5 million has been raised at this annual event to enhance cancer care and support patients across the Lahey Health System.
