Save the Middlesex Fells 90mm Meadow

Prevent the loss of precious conservation land to development

We would like to draw attention to, and voice our strong opposition against, the proposal to build a hockey rink on conservation land in the Middlesex Fells Reservation, as was brought to light in the Winchester Star’s article on October 16. We live right next to the area where the rink would be built, and we love walking in the area. We specifically chose this location as the place where we want to live for the rest of our lives (we are 31 years old), and where we want to raise our family, because we love nature and want to interact with it every day. We know many others who live in the area or visit from out of town.

Conservation land is precious and should be preserved – no matter how badly a hockey rink may be needed, there is surely a better place to put it. Putting it on the 90mm meadow site in the Fells as proposed would destroy a meadow that countless individuals including a local Girl Scout troop and the Department of Conservation and Recreation have worked to restore, and that is the home of over a hundred species of animals, plants, and trees.

Anyone interested in supporting our defense of the Fells is invited to reach out to the Friends of the Fells via their Facebook group, or website fells.org. We have also circulated a petition that can be found here (https://tiny.cc/savethefells), which all are welcome to sign.
