'Twilight' and 'Frozen' Inspire Popular Kitten Names

Bella and Elsa were found to be common names to call a kitten in 2014.

Many cat lovers may have been inspired by the animated film “Frozen” this year.

It was found to be a popular pattern for cat owners to name their kittens after the characters Elsa from “Frozen” and Bella from “Twilight,” according to the pet care website VetStreet.

VetStreet listed the Most Popular Kitten Names of 2014. The website looked at nearly 500,000 kitten names registered since Jan. 1, 2014 to determine the most popular names kitten owners named their pets this year.

The name Elsa made an impression on 2014 and debuted at No. 5 after not even making the Top 50 last year.

While Elsa skyrocketed up the list, Bella continued to reign as the top female kitten name since 2007.

VetStreet’s Top 10 Female Kitten Names of 2014:

  1. Bella
  2. Luna
  3. Lucy
  4. Kitty
  5. Elsa
  6. Daisy
  7. Lily
  8. Callie
  9. Lilly
  10. Gracie

For the male kittens, Oliver claimed the top spot for the second year in a row.

The names Milo and Leo climbed their way up the list to rank No. 2 and No. 3, while Max fell down three spots to No. 5.

There weren’t many male kittens named after vampires or ice princesses, but there were plenty of lion kings. The name Simba, ranked No. 6 on the list for male kitten names of 2014, may have been inspired by the animated film “The Lion King.”
