You Don’t Get Credit for Fixing the Crisis You Created

Stoneham, MA — Today, State Representative candidate Stephen Ternullo responded to Rep. Michael Day’s announcement of a new “energy affordability” bill, noting that the legislation comes only after years of policies that have contributed to the rising costs residents are now struggling to afford.

“For years, Rep. Day has supported a series of green-energy mandates and regulatory decisions that have driven up utility bills, added new fees, and placed the burden squarely on Massachusetts families,” said Ternullo. “Now he’s presenting himself as the solution to a problem his own votes helped create.”

Residents across the district have seen sharp increases in electricity and gas bills, along with new surcharges tied to state-mandated energy programs. “People are choosing between groceries and utility bills,” Ternullo said. “They deserve honesty about why their costs have skyrocketed — and they deserve leadership that puts affordability first, not after the damage is done.”

Ternullo emphasized the need for balanced, transparent energy policy that protects both the environment and household budgets. “We can pursue responsible energy goals without punishing ratepayers. What we cannot do is continue down a path where families pay more every year while Beacon Hill congratulates itself."
