The Woburn Historical Society is pleased to announce the grand opening of the Civil War Exhibit on Saturday, February 2nd from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Burdett Mansion, 7 Mishawum Road, home of the Society. The Civil War Exhibit Open House will feature time period artifacts, memorabilia, photos and dioramas from the war best known as the War Between the States, 1861-1865. Included in the exhibit are Federal and Confederate infantryman uniforms, a Federal officer’s uniform and a Federal infantry greatcoat. Also featured is the “Hall of Heroes,” a room dedicated to the portraits of the Woburn soldiers who courageously left their loved ones for the cause of freedom. Included in the Hall of Heroes are the men who were killed in action, men who were prisoners of war, and men who died of disease and wounds. There are 95 Woburn soldiers featured in the Hall of Heroes including members of the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.).
The Historical Society’s exhibits are made possible through the contribution of loaned artifacts from generous community citizens. The creative design and implementation of the Civil War Exhibit is by local artist and Society board director, Michelle Ferullo.

During the open house, the book titled, “A Union Town During the Civil War, Woburn, Massachusetts” by local author Leon Basile will be available for purchase. Also available for purchase will be the Society’s most recent film, “In the Cause of Liberty, Woburn in the Civil War,” a Plasma Films production.

The exhibit is a great educational opportunity to learn about the Civil War during its 150th anniversary and the Society welcomes all students. Light refreshments will be served.
The Civil War Exhibit will continue to be open to the public during February and March on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The Woburn Historical Society can be reached at 781-933-5002.
