As the class of 2012 comes to an end, new traditions begin at Woburn Memorial High School. WMHS held their very first Promenade on May 24 in the Carl J. Torrice Gymnasium. The stands were packed with friends and families who came to support their loved ones.
The ground was dawned with a glamorous red carpet which was sectioned off with velvet ropes. As the clock struck four, Theresa Christenson, the adviser of the senior class, began the Promenade by introducing the class officers and their dates. As each couple flowed down the red carpet, cameras flashed and the crowd cheered.

Many members of the WMHS staff came out to support their students, including math teacher Daniel Moresco.
“It’s a nice way to be able to see everyone before they head off for the evening, especially for the teachers who don’t chaperone the prom. We didn’t do anything like this when I was in high school,” commented Moresco.

The seniors who partook in the very first Promenade such as Amanda Rollins believe that it’s a great way to celebrate the seniors and give them some time in the spotlight.
“I thought the Promenade was pretty cool. It gave everyone their moment to shine and walking down the red carpet kind of felt like I was at a movie premiere. It’s a nice way for everyone to be recognized individually. We spend so much time preparing for the prom,” said Rollins.
Many students who attended the Promenade to support their friends believe that it’s a tradition that will be sticking around WMHS for awhile. Junior Michaela Quiqley believes that the Promenade will be just as successful next year.
“I liked it because it was easier than having to weave through the crowd in the parking lot to see everyone. I’m definitely going to do it next year and I know that after seeing it this year, many people in the class of 2013 want to do it too,” stated Quigley.
As WMHS says farewell to the class of 2012, the high school welcomes the new tradition that they began with open arms.
