A funny thing happened to me, one day I woke up and I was 30. I mean I know growing older is a part of life but there is just something about 30 that stings a little. At least for a woman it does. There are so many things that come with going over that “hill.” Many call it a milestone, then there are those who say 30 is the new 20 … Really? Tell my grey hairs that. I mean I don’t think 30 is old, per say, but let’s just say it’s mature. I mean I remember when I was younger and talking with my friend about what we would be like when we were 30 ... and it seemed a lifetime away. It was like I blinked and I missed it!
Today I am 32 years old and in astonishment. It really does go by way to fast. I still don’t think of myself as an adult! Sometimes I’m out at a restaurant and the waitress will call me “ma’am” and I’m like “What? Who you calling Ma’am, not me! I’m too young to be a Ma’am.” I remember the day I bought my house; I left the closing and was like, what I’m not old enough to own a house!
As a woman, growing older stings a little more. In today’s society you wouldn’t think that was true but unfortunately it is. Women, simply, fight the hands of time with everything from wrinkles creams to hair dye. We do this on a constant basis; it is a daily fight. We do this because we must in order to keep up with this world. Our society is geared towards “younger is better.” I mean turn on your TV any given day and I guarantee that no matter what channel you turn to you will see at least one woman who has had something lifted, stuffed, or peeled in order to “stay young.” There is a saying “youth is wasted on the young” ... Amen!

I mean not to get to cliché but I find myself thinking a lot “if I only knew then what I know now!” While youthful looks have their advantages I’d like to think the getting older has its advantages too; and wisdom is quite an advantage.
In the words of Ferris Bueller, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” So, ladies, in our effort to find the fountain of youth and stay young forever, let’s not forget to cherish our time while we have it … 'Cause some day we will blink again and be 40!
