Time Management

Time passages!

Hello Woburn. I am writing this late at night, (well. late for me.) It's a little after midnight here in North Woburn, and most of the neighborhood is in darkness. I've been thinking all weekend about time and how it flies. As my daughter graduates college tomorrow, It's finally dawned on me that time really does pass too quickly. It seems as though it was only a few weeks ago that we were sending her off to the Altavesta to start the 1st grade, and now she is about to embark on a career path as a College Graduate.I know we all feel this way at times, but doesn't it seem as if time sometimes flashes by and leaves you wondering where you were and what you missed?

Why is it that the 8 hours a day we spend at work seems to drag (especially on a Friday.) but the weekends fly by? The time spent in the Doctor's waiting room drags on, but the years fly by when your children reach milestones. If I spend a weekend up north it seems to be all over before I settle in, but when I cut and rake the grass here at home it seems to take all weekend. Now I look at my children, one is going to have a baby in the fall. Yes! a baby! We are going to be Grandparents. It seems like only yesterday I was teaching her to drive! How did we get to this point? How did she become a wife and mother so fast? Where did the time go? My youngest daughter is graduating college. Yes, college! She is all grown up already. Where was I for all of this? Didn't we just put her on the bus to Washington D.C, with the Kennedy Middle School for the class trip?

Now we have all had those daydreams about how much we would like to go back to those days when we were young, just to re-live them if only for a while. But I am getting to live a new life now. New beginnings are starting up for me. I can't wait to be a part of it all. The new jobs, the new babies, all of it. Time will still march on, I can't control that, I can't control how fast or slow it passes either, but I can enjoy the things yet to come. I can accept that fact now that I am an old sage (well not really). I can enjoy the minutes as they come. As for my children, their time will fly for them. They will one day have the thoughts that I am having now. The thoughts we all have, that their time has flown by.

So, as my life is about to take a few twists and turns, I am going to look at this as my second chance. I will take it all in and hopefully be around for a long time to enjoy it. My father had a habit of just watching and smiling, I know now that he was soaking up the memories and the moments. It's a lesson that I am begining to understand.  Treat it as if it was a great vacation, you know what I mean. Those vacations that stay with you for years and years, as if it was yesterday.

As my daughter walked across the stage at the Wang center to accept her diploma, I looked over at my wife and said "Well she did it sweetie." And my wife looked back at me and said " the time flew didn't it?" Then later that evening at the restauraunt, my sister came up to me and we started talking about my oldest daughter  who is now expecting, and she said to me, "Look at her, look how great she looks and how happy she is." And then she added, "Where did the time go?" So time flies for everyone.

So careers and babies are about to unfold, I will take it all in. I will treat it like that great vacation that stays with you for years and years. And in that way, hopefully time will stand still, if only for a while. Many songs have been written about time: Time in a bottle, Time on my side, etc. etc. Some people felt the need for songs, some for poetry, all expressing feelings about time. I chose to write a blog about it. I need to make sure there is time enough to enjoy what's to come. Peace to you. Enjoy the moments in life.
