What to do come September? How about AmeriCorps?

Describes how AmeriCorps could be a good option for recent grads considering what to do come September!

It's almost August. The back-to-school sales have already cropped up at stores around Woburn (ugh, too soon!). But with with nearly half of recent college graduates still looking for work, there are many young adults that are still trying to figure out what September will bring for them this year.

Well, for recent grads (and others) looking for a way to gain skills and advance their careers while making a difference, AmeriCorps could be just the thing. Social Capital Inc. has 6 new AmeriCorps positions right here in Woburn that start in September. The SCI AmeriCorps members serve full-time for ten months, and earn a stipend and educational award while getting great practical experience that can be a great steppingstone. In fact, over half of SCI AmeriCorps members wind up continuing to work at the nonprofit they are placed at, after their AmeriCorps year is done.

The Woburn-based positions will be based at the Boys & Girls Club of Woburn, the YMCA, NuPath, and SCI.

The AmeriCorps members will serve as either Outreach & Technology Coordinators or Youth Leadership Coordinators.  As Outreach & Technology Coordinators, members conduct community outreach and use online communication in order to recruit volunteers and to connect citizens with the information they need to participate in civic life.  As Youth Leadership Coordinators, members will implement a Youth Leadership curriculum that emphasizes a learning by doing approach that trains teenagers to organize projects that engage their peers in Community Service Learning (CSL) and other civic activities.

Please share with anyone you know who might be interested!

Those interested in serving with SCI should review the additional information on the positions at http://socialcapitalinc.org/getinvolved/service and get their cover letters and resumes into SCI as soon as possible. We still have several openings but they will go fast!

The mission of SCI Social Capital Inc. is to strengthen communities by connecting diverse individuals and organizations through civic engagement initiatives.  We envision a nation where individuals are strongly connected to their neighbors and play an active role in shaping the destiny of their communities.  SCI has been part of the AmeriCorps National Service Network for most of its 10 year history.  The Massachusetts Service Alliance oversees the AmeriCorps Program for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
