Wine Spectator recognizes Beacon Grille for second year

Woburn's Beacon Grille restaurant will appear in the August issue of Wine Spectator, having received the magazine's esteemed Award of Excellence for the second year in a row.

Woburn’s Beacon Grille restaurant will appear in the August issue of Wine Spectator, having just received the magazine’s esteemed Award of Excellence. This is the second year in a row the upscale American-style steakhouse has earned a nod from the national publication.

“This designation is certainly very prestigious,” said Beacon Grille beverage director Janet Urban. “We worked hard to earn the award again this year.”

Wine Spectator grants the Award of Excellence to restaurants around the world that offer well-chosen and interesting selections of quality wines that complement their cuisine and appeal to a wide range of wine lovers. With approximately 150 wines on its daily menu, Beacon Grille currently holds more than 3,000 bottles in its inventory.

Urban credits the restaurant’s focus on quality and value for its nod from the renowned wine magazine. She noted that bottled wine often can be purchased at Beacon Grille for 20 percent less than at many of its competitors.

“We want people to be able to experience fine wines at a reasonable price,” said Urban. “After working with our distributors to find the best values, we pass along the savings to our guests.”

According to Urban, who is a longtime Woburn resident, Beacon Grille diversified its wine list during the past year, adding more California wines and more labels that are recognized by the casual wine drinker.

She noted, “With such diversity in terms of varietal, vintage, and price point, our list truly does have something for everyone.”

In April, high-profile executive chef Damian Zedower took the top spot in the kitchen at Beacon Grille. Trained at the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y., Zedower served most recently as interim executive chef at Asana, the acclaimed restaurant in Boston’s five-star Mandarin Oriental hotel. He also served for 10 years with Four Seasons Resorts in San Diego, Palm Beach, and Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Beacon Grille is located at TradeCenter 128 in Woburn. Its wine list is available at www.BeaconGrille.com.
