Building Boom Will Spike Enrollment In Woburn Schools
The district had to build a makeshift classroom at the Joyce Middle School this year.

WOBURN, MA -- A proposal to move the administrative offices of Woburn Public Schools to the site of the old Wyman Elementary School is being driven in part by an expected increase in enrollment. At this week's school committee meeting, Superintendent Matthew Crowley said the district is already seeing an increase in the number of students at Joyce Middle School, and that he expects enrollments to continue as new housing projects are approved and built in Woburn.
Crowley said the district had to add a position at Joyce Middle School this year, and that the district had to build walls to create a classroom for the new teacher. Moving the administrative offices, which still needs further study and planning, would free up space for classrooms. The office are currently house at Joyce.
"We may need the space," Crowley said. "The growing number of students in Woburn is something we have to be thoughtful about. As I drive through Woburn and see all the construction, I anticipate the number of students may grow."
