Changes Coming to The Restaurant

The Main Street eatery is adding hours and a new lounge area.

Some changes will be coming to on Main Street. But don't worry, the breakfast menu will remain the same.

Peter Mamakos, owner of The Restaurant, asked city officials to allow his eatery to be open between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. Monday through Sunday. The change in schedule means that The Restaurant will be open two hours later Monday through Saturday and 10 hours later on Sunday.

"It seems like the rainy day has come," said Mamakos. "The food industry is taking a hit."

In addition to the change in hours, Mamakos is also working on constructing a bar/lounge area inside the eatery.

"Among other things, I just decided I would like to add a lounge to The Restaurant and maybe kick up the dinner business a little bit," he said. "With all the things going on in Woburn Center… I just want to be on the same playing field as everybody else in town."

The City Council approved Mamakos' request, but did inquire about what might happen to The Restaurant's large crowd of regular breakfast patrons.

"The seating will stay the same," said Mamakos. "You're more than welcome to sit over there and have pancakes and a beer."

Carnival time

The annual carnival, held at the on Middlesex Canal Park, will be held from May 3 through 8 this year.

The club needed a special permit approval from the City Council and obtained that Tuesday night. The Planning Board also supported the request.

"We're going to do the same thing this year that we did last year and for decades before that," said Jim Haggerty, representing the Boys and Girls Club.

Taxi withdrawal

The owner of Sureride withdrew his previous request for a taxi license without prejudice, after the City Council committee on licenses decided.
