Hurld-Wyman Board Sets Location for New Woburn School
The new Hurld-Wyman School address will be located on Wyman Street.

The location for Woburn’s unconstructed Hurld-Wyman School has finally been set. The Daily Times Chronicle reports that the Hurld-Wyman School Building Committee selected a Wyman Street address in favor of Lowell Street, which is closest to the school.
Patrick Blais, who broke the story on the Daily Times Chronicle, reports:
“As part of a pledge by those seeking to use the old Spence Farm land for the Hurld-Wyman, the Agricultural Commission will maintain virtually unfettered control of some 3.3-acres of land closest to Wyman Street, which is being used a community gathering space for farmers markets and a host of other activities.

The early activity, to begin roughly seven months before construction on the new school itself will commence, will help delineate the dividing line between the educational use and the recreational one.
The school, as well as a 54-space parking lot for staff and visitors, will be built on the remaining 4.2-acres of land by Lowell Street. Most of that construction work will not begin until January of 2017, based on current project timelines.

The 71,000 square foot building will appear to have its front entrance off of Lowell Street, but students will be entering the school through a plaza by the parking area that is accessed off of Wyman Street. For that reason, while the municipal land will essentially be divided into two plots, there will be shared uses of the access road and parking lots.”
Parental drop-off traffic likely will enter off of Wyman street. The farm stand portion of the 7.5 acres will also have its own parking lot. The Agricultural Commission will also be able to use the school parking lot during weekend events.
