Opening Night Win for the Lobsters
There was electricity in the air, both literally and figuratively, when the Lobsters started the 2013 season against the New York Sportimes.
With lightening flashing in the distance, the Boston Lobsters took the court for their first home match of the season and first at their new home at the Joan Norton Tennis Center at the Manchester Athletic Club. The Lobsters are the first professional sports team on Cape Ann. Their opponent was the New York Sportimes – Jesse Witten, Robert Kendrick, Kveta Peschke and Abigail Spears.
First up was men’s singles. Amir Weintraub played for the Lobsters against Jesse Witten. It was a close match with Weintraub getting stronger as the match progressed. They went to a tie breaker with Weintraub coming out on top 5-4.
Next was women’s doubles. New Lobsters Jill Craybas and Katalin Marosi struggled against Sportimes players Kveta Peschke and Abigail Spears. They lost 5 -2 giving the Sportimes the lead 9-7.

Katalin Marosi and veteran Lobster Eric Butorac took on Kveta Peschke and Robert Kendrick in mixed doubles. The new doubles pair clicked and won the match 5-2 giving the Lobsters the lead 12-11.
Abigail Spears and Jill Craybas played women’s singles. Jill lost 5-3 giving the Sportimes the edge 16-15.

It was up to the team of Eric Butorac & Amir Weintraub to catch up against Robert Kendrick and Jesse Witten. They were up to the challenge and won the match 5-2 giving the Lobsters a 20-18 win.
