Police Log: Vandals Decapitate Halloween Parade Characters

Excerpts from the Woburn Police Department log.

Thursday, Sept. 11

At 8:12 a.m., police responded to the Plympton School after someone broke into the building and cut off the heads of at least 10 Halloween Parade characters and broke at least two Christmas decorations. Police found that a rear door was damaged and a smoking pipe made from a Poland Springs water bottle was at the door. They also discovered coating on the floor that may have come from a fire extinguisher and feces. Police took a report.

At 11:20 a.m., police responded to a car accident at Tower Office Park. A person was backing out of a parking spot when it collided with another vehicle. There were no reported injuries. One of the drivers was cited for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

At 12:32 p.m, police received a call about fraud. A person responded to his ad for a home health aide. She said she was living in New York and would soon move to Woburn. She told him that she needed a new wheelchair for her mother. She asked him if he could forward money for the wheelchair to a person who was selling one in Georgia and that she would reimburse him. He received a check from the person for $2,780 and sent $2,160 (and also a $131 fee) via Western Union to a third party in Georgia. His bank called him and said the check from the woman had bounced. She then stopped communicating with the Woburn man. Police said he was likely duped out of the money.

At 11:57 p.m., police placed a 48-year-old intoxicated Woburn man into protective custody after a report of an unwanted person in a Webster Avenue residence.
