Police Log: Vandals Destroy Playground Equipment at Ferullo Field
Excerpts from the Woburn Police Department log.

Wednesday, Sept. 24
At 8:23 a.m., police responded to a two-car accident at Main Street and Lake Avenue. There were no injuries. One driver was cited for failing to yield the right of way.
At 9:11 a.m., a Bedford Road resident called police after vandals destroyed a concrete garden statue in a front year. The statue is about 3 ½ feet high and weighs about 150 pounds. The statue was found broken on the sidewalk. Police believe the vandals tried to steal the statue and dragged it from the property. The vandals may have accidentally or intentionally dropped it and the statue shattered.

At 2:32 p.m., police received a call about vandalism to the Ferullo Field playground. A spring-mounted fire truck ride was destroyed. The entire plastic portion of the truck was ripped off the spring-mounted base. The value of the piece of equipment is $1,000.

At 1:15 p.m., police responded to a two-car accident on Mishawum Road. There were no injuries. One vehicle was towed.
At 2:47 p.m.,, police arrested Cal D. Murphy, 29, 65 Spear St., Melrose, and charged him with shoplifting more than $100 by asportation. Police made the arrest after a report of a man stealing a Avio Sound Bar from Radio Shack. Murphy reportedly stole the display item. An employee chased after the Melrose man, but the suspect was able to evade the employee. Murphy then went into a bathroom at Qdoba where he left the Sound Bar. Police saw Murphy on Mishawum Road and spoke to the Melrose man. He initially denied the theft, but ultimately said the Sound Bar was in the Qdoba bathroom. Police also reportedly found wire cutters and a small folding knife on Murphy.
