School of Fashion Design

Celebrating over 90 years of excellence in fashion education, The School of Fashion Design is the only educational institution in New England dedicated exclusively to the study of fashion design. SFD provides students with a solid foundation in apparel design and construction, and the skills required for a successful career in fashion. Our technical Certificate program is taught by experts in the field of fashion design. Students may take courses toward the Certificate or on a class-by-class basis to fill professional education interests. For creatives and textile arts enthusiasts, SFD offers workshops in various fiber arts such as weaving, lace making, embroidery, millinery, upcycling, and more. As an SFD student, you will join a diverse community of emerging designers. Our studios are filled with recent high school graduates, students from nearby colleges enriching their education with fashion, and working professionals embarking on a new career path. SFD faculty and students are active partners in our local community, collaborating regularly with organizations and businesses through internships, exhibitions, field trips, and special events. Our reputation for excellence is on display each time our students show their work at fashion shows and exhibits throughout the year. With an SFD Certificate in Fashion Design, our alumni have enjoyed fashion careers with Adidas, Coldwater Creek, J. Jill, New Balance, PUMA, Ralph Lauren, Talbots, Timberland, TJX Companies, and more. Our alumni are designers and costumers for stage and screen, while others have found success launching their own label. Our varied class levels and flexible schedules are designed to meet the needs and profiles of all students. Monday, Dec. 1At 8:45 a.m., a Bedford Road resident reported that someone stole a water foundation from her front yard. The fountain was a sculpture of a little boy boosting a little girl up to get a drink of water. It is valued at about $300. At 1:55 p.m., police placed a 47-year-old homeless man into protective custody after a report of an intoxicated man leaning on cars on Main Street. Police found the man was heavily intoxicated and had a facial abrasion and a black eye and two hospital bans on his wrists. Police placed him into protective custody.

Our annual Hosta and Perennial sale will be held Saturday May 30 &nbsp;&amp; Sunday &nbsp;May 31 and Saturday June 6, 2026 at the Historic Lyman Estate Greenhouses.
We will have hundreds of plants both for the sun and shade along with a&nbsp; beautiful selection of hostas in blue, golds and variegated.We have a nice selection of herbs as well.
The Historic Greenhouses will be open during the sale, come rain or shine.
