Newest School Resource In Burlington Is A Massive, Endangered Snake Named Salem
Black rat snakes like Salem are extremely rare in Massachusetts and can grow to be as long as six feet.
BURLINGTON, MA -- The Burlington Science Center is part of the Burlington Public School System and offers resources for science education throughout the district -- resources like Salem, a black rat snake who could grow to be between three and six feet long.
The Burlington Science Center's newest resident is a black rat snake named Salem. Black rat snakes are the largest snakes found in Massachusetts and are currently listed as an endangered species in Massachusetts, although they remain common in other parts of North America.

Salem was rescued by Rainforest Reptiles Shows Oasis after his previous owner died. The Science Center had another black rat snake that died this past summer, which made it the perfect home for Salem when Rainforest Reptiles was looking for a permanent place for him to live.
