Andover Puppy Overdoses After Ingesting Drug On Morning Walk
Zoey, a 3-month-old yellow Labrador, was saved after being an overdose reversal drug typically given to humans.

ANDOVER, MA -- A quick-thinking veterinarian was able to save a three-moth-old puppy that is believed to have overdosed after ingesting fentanyl last week. Peter Thibault was walking his dog Zoey, who collapsed minutes after picking up a discarded package of cigarettes. Thibault took the dog to a veterinary hospital where Zoey received a dose of Narcan, the overdose reversal drug typically given to humans after an opioid overdose.

Zoey was treated over the course of 12 hours, according to the Eagle-Tribune, which first reported the story. Doctors believe Zoey ingested fentanyl, as the drug left his system quicker than it would have had it been another opioid.

Staff at the hospital told Thibault that it was not the first time they had treated a dog for an accidental opioid overdose.
