VOTE on NEW SCHOOL LOCATION TONIGHT

Final vote to build the new school on Spence Farm - please attend to show you support for a NO vote

The final vote by the city council & school committee to build a school on our Spence Farm will be held tonight, Monday Sept 22 at 7:00 PM at city hall. Please attend to show your support for a NO vote.

You probably know the issues by now:
- Meals tax was passed specifically to buy this parcel (& Whispering Hill)
- This is a protection against horrendous flooding in the area
- There is very little open space on this side of the city
- The farm has become a center for recreational use summer & winter and for community events
- The artists rendition that keeps some of the area for community use will likely never come to fruition because DEP will likely impose severe flood mitigation measures requiring the use of that space
- City officials touted this as an open space achievement “for generations to come” in their election campaigns
- The owners of the blighted parcel at 71 Wyman have offered a land swap for that site which was one of the original alternatives and would be perfect for the school
- We have built 4 schools in the past few years with state aid, there will always be money available in the near future if we take a step back and pursue the land swap
- Don’t allow a mistake that will adversely affect our city forever for the sake of expediency

Now is the time to show our pride in our city and to express community values that cherish quality of life for our children for “generations to come”.
