Woburn 5th Graders Visit Museum Of Science With Celtics Player
5th grade class from Linscott-Rumford Elementary School garners science museum field trip after winning school-wide recycling contest.

From the Boston Celtics: After recycling a school-best 7,100 bottles in just 10 days as part of the JN Phillips Auto Glass Greenshield Recycling Education initiative, the winning 5th grade class from Linscott-Rumford Elementary in Woburn, MA cashed in on their reward as they joined Celtics center Aron Baynes, Celtics Mascot “Lucky” the Leprechaun and JN Phillips President, Bob Rosenfield at the Museum of Science for a mid-morning field trip.
The students began the field trip with a ‘design challenge’, splitting up into small groups to assemble a trophy out of recycled materials. After the contest, they participated in an active discussion regarding the importance of environmental preservation.
As a whole, students from Linscott-Rumford Elementary School combined to recycle 35,649 plastic bottles in just 10 days, upping its total to 604,555 items over the last six years of contests.

“To be able to come together and recycle that much in just a 10-day span is remarkable,” said Baynes. “Really the entire school should be acknowledged for what they were able to do during this challenge, but I’m glad we were able to come out and celebrate this group of students. I’m excited to find out what they’re able to accomplish over the next two challenges.”
“We are all very proud of the Linscott-Rumsford students for enthusiastically embracing the importance of learning how to take care of our environment,” said Rosenfield. “The lessons being taught and learned today demonstrate to young people that each one of them can make a difference.”
