Woburn Bookkeeper Charged with Embezzling $211K+ from Employer

Darlene Ryan, 53, allegedly used the money to fund a lavish lifestyle that included vacations and expensive dinners, among other purchases.

A Woburn woman was arraigned Wednesday on charges she embezzled more than $211,000 from a Concord business where she worked for over a decade.

Darlene Ryan, 53, of Woburn, allegedly stole the money from M.J. Bradley & Associates, an environmental consulting firm on Junction Square Drive in Concord.

Police said from 2003 to 2014, Ryan illegally charged more than $211,000 worth of personal expenses to her business credit card. She used the money to fund a lavish lifestyle that included vacations and expensive dinners, among other purchases.

“It’s clear from the evidence we have that she went to great lengths to hide her activities, in some instances, allegedly inflating the amount being spent by her coworkers on their corporate credit cards to conceal the fact she was spending money on herself,” Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said in a statement.

Ryan was charged with larceny and six counts of making false entries in corporate books.

Following her arraignment, she was released on personal recognizance. She’s due back in court July 2.
