Woburn Councilman Gaffney Overwhelms Opponents In Preliminary Election
The incumbent received more than 85% of the 281 votes cast in Tuesday's polling.
WOBURN, MA -- Woburn Alderman Mark Gaffney easily won a preliminary election Tuesday for Ward 3 Alderman. Challengers Claire Malaguti of Colonial Road and Philip Ciampa of Philips Street received 21 and 17 votes respectively. There were four write-in votes cast while Gaffney received the remaining 239 votes of the 281 cast.
Under Woburn's election rules, preliminary elections are held in council races with three or more candidates. Gaffney and Malaguti, as the two highest vote getters in Tuesday's election, will square off in the November general election. The Ward 3 race was the only race that required a city election.
