Woburn: Electrical Fire Sparked Blaze at Turf Time

The State Fire Marshal's office announced the cause of Tuesday's three-alarm fire.

WOBURN, MA—The cause of the three-alarm fire that roared throughout Main St. Tuesday afternoon was announced Wednesday morning.

Jennifer Mieth, a spokesperson for the State Fire Marshal's office, told Patch that Turf Time was closed when the blaze began, and that the electrical fire sparked above a suspended ceiling between the first and second floors of the building.

Mieth also added that the fire grew undetected in a void space for an extended period of time, and that no one was injured.

Woburn Fire Chief Timothy Ring told Patch that the front portion of the Turf Time unit, which was where the fire began, was completely destroyed. The three stores to the left of Turf Time, including P&M Locksmith and Indian Express, sustained heavy damage in the roofing system above the businesses.

Ring also told Patch that the storefronts next to the Turf Time building—including Cousin's Restaurant—did not receive any fire damage, but there was a significant amount of smoke and potential water damage from firefighting efforts.
