Woburn Extends Superintendent Search

The school committee moved to assure the public that it would have a chance to offer input on the hiring process.

WOBURN, MA -- The Woburn School Committee will extend its search for a new superintendent past its original, January 1 deadline. The move comes after two community groups led a petition drive asking for a greater say in the process. Woburn Welcomes and the Woburn Special Education Parent Advisory Committee had asked the committee to take more time with the decision.

The school committee will consider candidates recommended by its search committee at a special meeting on December 19. At its November 28 meeting, Chair Ellen Crowley said the process was expected to continue into the new year and that the hiring process would include meet-and-greet sessions and interview sessions with finalists for the position.

The committee is searching for a replacement for Superintendent Mark Donovan, who plans to retire at the end of the school year. Candidates have until December 15 to submit applications to be considered for the process. The committee is soliciting input from parents and Woburn residents to aid its search through an online survey.
