Woburn House Delegation Votes To Delay Income Tax Deadline
The bill would also allow restaurants to offer takeout and delivery alcohol, among other provisions.
Press release from Woburn state house delegation:
“Making sure taxpayers have more time to complete their returns and providing local restaurants with different ways to generate revenue are common sense steps that will help consumers and businesses alike,” said Representative Haggerty. “As a former local official, I know first-hand how important it is to provide municipal leaders with additional tools during these unprecedented times.”
“As we all continue to social distance to slow the spread of the Coronavirus, it is crucial that we in the General Court give folks flexibility moving forward,” said Representative Ciccolo. “As such, I was pleased to support this package, which will streamline the Massachusetts individual tax deadline to align with the new federal date of July 15th, provide options and flexibility for our cities and towns, and support our local businesses as they adapt to this new environment."
The legislation would extend the individual state tax filing and payment deadline from April 15 to July 15, and includes the following provisions:- Permits establishments licensed to sell alcohol for on-premises consumption to sell wine and beer via delivery and take-out, provided the wine or beer is sold in the same transaction as a purchase of food and in a sealed container.
- Modifies local permitting processes, extending municipal tax deadlines, and allowing municipalities to extend property tax exemptions and deferrals.
- Allows municipalities to activate qualified workers by suspending the cap on hours and compensation for certain retired employees for hours worked during the state of emergency.
The bill will now go to the Senate.
