Woburn Man Caught in the Act of Stealing His Grandmother's Jewelry

William Hinchliffe-Metrano was scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday in Woburn District Court.

A local man’s family caught him in the act of stealing jewelry from his grandmother at a Rumford Park Avenue house on Monday afternoon. One family member confronted him in the grandmother’s bedroom before calling police, according to reports, and he turned over the majority of the jewelry to her with the exception of a ring.

As one family member called police, the man fled on foot after he wrestled with another sibling.

Family members went running after him through the neighborhood.

An officer saw the suspect, who was known to police, attempting to cross Mishawum Road. The suspect ducked into a yard.

A short time later, the officer saw the suspect hunched down on his hands and knees behind a large shrub at the foot of a deck where a woman was sitting. The officer ordered the suspect to show his hands and come out.

William J. Hinchliffe-Metrano, 26, was arrested without incident, according to authorities.

ā€œBilly lit a cigarette, stood up and walked out from behind the bush, laid face down in the grass,ā€ according to police reports.

Hinchliffe-Metrano was charged with larceny from a building and a warrant.

It was also reported that he had been recently paroled to the address on Rumford Park Avenue. State police picked up Hinchliffe-Metrano Monday nightĀ at the Woburn Police Department on a warrant for violating parole, and transported him to the Middlesex House of Correction in Billerica.

Hinchliffe-Metrano was scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday in Woburn District Court.

The ring, a 22-carat gold ring in the shape of a flower, was not found.
