Woburn Vet -- And Vet -- Announces Run For State Rep
Positioning himself as a political outsider, Darryn Remillard will challenge fellow incumbent and fellow Democrat James J. Dwyer.

WOBURN, MA -- Darryn Remillard, a Woburn resident and veternarian who is partner in a Wellesley practice, announced plans to run for the 30th Middlesex seat in the House of Representatives currently held by Rep. James J. Dwyer (D-Woburn). The seat represents precincts 2-5 in Reading and Wards 2-6 in Woburn. Remillard is a Democrat and a Marine Corps veteran.
In a statement announcing his candidacy, Remillard described himself as a progressive Democrat whose "grassroots campaign" will emphasize the importance of engaged citizenship, thriving communities and healthy families. Dwyer, who has held the seat since 2009, has yet to announce reelection plans for a sixth term. His campaign Website includes a more detailed look at his platform, which includes an emphasis on affordable housing and decreased emphasis on standardized testing in public schools, among other issues.
"My decision to seek elected office as your state representative has been very deliberate- like my decision to enlist in our United States Marine Corps I don't know where this journey will take me, but the same sense of idealism and call to service compel me to do this," he said. "Our campaign- comprised of working people with very little political experience, will be focused on...having the kind of conversations that our commonwealth and nation need to have about the health of our democracy and what kind of future we want for our communities and our children."
