A pair of "unprepared" teenagers from Auburn in Worcester County were saved from waist-deep snow on Mount Moosilauke in Warren, NH.
WORCESTER, MA - A pair of teenagers from Auburn were saved from Mount Moosilauke in Warren, NH, after they became stranded in waist-deep snow.
According to a news release from the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, Adrian Colon, 17, and Andrew Lucier, 18, both from Auburn, managed to request assistance. Both teens, deemed "unprepared" by the department, did not have snowshoes or headlamps. Their cell phone battery died in the middle of their call, but they managed to find a battery charger and make an additional phone call.
Conservation officers found the two teens near the Ravine Lodge at 8:38 p.m. They started their hike at 1 p.m. that afternoon and had warm gear for winter weather.
"New Hampshire Fish and Game would like to remind hikers to prepare themselves before venturing out into the wilderness," the department said in a statement on their website. It contains a list of 10 essential items: map, compass, warm clothing, extra food and water, headlamp, fire starter, first aid kit, whistle, rain/wind jackets and pants and a knife.
