3 Charged In Connection With 2019 Worcester Murder Of 18-Year-Old
Tafar Lewis was shot and killed on Gage Street in July 2019, police said.
WORCESTER, MA — A Massachusetts man was arrested last week and two others have been charged in connection to a murder from 2019, according to the Worcester Police Department.
Juan Ruiz, 26, was arrested on a warrant and charged with murder on Friday, Apr. 3, police said. It was the result of a long investigation into the July 2019 fatal shooting of Tafar Lewis.
Lewis, who was 18 years old at the time, was shot and killed outside of 59 Gage St. on Jul. 2, 2019, police said.

Detectives and prosecutors working with the Worcester County District Attorney’s office said they had been working to bring closure to Lewis’s family and hold those responsible for his death responsible.
Worcester police said its detectives detectives, along with assistance from the county sheriff’s office, developed new information regarding Lewis’s death recently. Using the information, the agency was able to develop probable cause and charge three people.

Along with Ruiz, police charged Juan Otero and Mugisha Jean-Bosco with murder. Otero is in federal custody and Jean-Bosco is in state custody on unrelated charges.
“These charges are a result of the dedication and hard work of detectives and prosecutors in the pursuit of justice,” the Worcester Police Department wrote in a news release.
