Worcester Caribbean American Carnival To Take Hiatus This Year

The event has been held every August since 2013.

WORCESTER, MA — An annual event in the city announced it will not be happening this year.

The Worcester Caribbean American Carnival Association announced it will take a hiatus for the 2026 Carnival season, citing a need to regroup and strengthen the organization’s long-term impact.

The event has been held every August since 2013. The parade begins at Worcester City Hall and continues up Main Street toward Institute Park.

“This was not an easy decision,” the group wrote in a social media statement Thursday. “Carnival is more than a celebration—it’s our culture, our history, our music, our people. It’s where the Caribbean spirit shows up fully and unapologetically here in Worcester.”

Organizers said the pause will allow WCACA to reflect and evolve into a more “holistic organization,” with a focus on expanding beyond Carnival Day into year-round programming and community engagement.

The goal, according to the group, is to “deepen our impact, strengthen our foundation, and create meaningful, year-round engagement” that better serves Worcester’s Caribbean community.

WCACA said it plans to use the time to rebuild and realign, with the intention of returning stronger in future years.

“We want to ensure that when we return, we do so stronger, more aligned, and able to deliver the experience you all deserve,” the statement said.

The organization thanked the community for its continued support and stressed that the hiatus is temporary.

WCACA encouraged residents to stay connected for future updates.
