The money comes from the Fair Share surtax on income over $1 million, which channels revenue into transportation and education projects through the state budget. Local lawmakers secured this targeted investment specifically for Worcester’s sidewalks.    

2. Worcester Teen Charged After Assaulting Federal Informant During Planned Gun Sale: USAO (patch.com) — Residents may notice heightened federal court activity in Worcester after an 18-year-old city resident was charged with assaulting a federal confidential informant during a planned gun sale. Prosecutors say the February incident involved a firearm pointed at the informant, a robbery inside a vehicle in Worcester, and a brief foot chase before arrest. The teen remains in federal custody while facing a possible lengthy prison sentence.    

3. Worcester Projects Get $2.7M In Funding For Environmental Research, Affordable Housing (patch.com) — Federal funding is bringing more than $2.7 million directly into Worcester, backing a WPI project to destroy PFAS contamination across Worcester County and infrastructure work at 128 Providence Street. The Providence Street upgrades will support future affordable, accessible senior housing near the Worcester Senior Center, giving older residents easier access to meals, fitness, and health services.    

4. Man Stabbed Behind Worcester City Hall, Police Investigating (patch.com) — Police are investigating after a man was stabbed Tuesday afternoon on the Worcester Common behind City Hall, an incident that sent the victim to a local hospital in stable condition. Detectives say there is no ongoing threat to the public, but have not yet released details about a suspect or what led to the attack.    

5. 3 Worcester Students Receive Top Academic Distinction (patch.com) — Worcester readers can celebrate three local WPI seniors who earned the prestigious Salisbury Prize, standing out among more than 1,200 classmates.
