WORCESTER, MA — A Worcester woman died Wednesday morning after she was struck by a flatbed tow truck while crossing the street near Canterbury and Grand streets, according to police.
The crash happened around 10 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection. Police closed Canterbury Street and Grand Street in both directions while they investigated. Both roads have since reopened.
Officers arriving at the scene found the woman with severe head and leg injuries and applied a tourniquet to her leg, police said.
Worcester Fire and EMS pronounced the victim dead at 10:09 a.m. Police identified her as Van Thi Khanh Doan, 39, of Worcester.
According to police, the tow truck driver remained at the scene.
A preliminary investigation found that Doan was in a crosswalk crossing Canterbury Street when a tow truck approached the intersection of Canterbury and Grand streets, turned left and struck her.
The Worcester Police Department's Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash and will determine whether charges will be filed against the driver, police said.
