WORCESTER, MA — State cannabis regulators have issued a health warning about a marijuana product sold in Massachusetts and several other states.

The product, called 1906 Midnight Drops, contains the ingredient Corydalis, which may cause liver damage, according to the state Cannabis Control Commission.

State regulators first learned about the potentially harmful ingredient after Colorado's cannabis regulator issued a warning. The Cannabis Control Commission isn't recalling the product pending an investigation.

"Because Corydalis has been associated with an elevated risk of liver injury ... and may pose a risk to the public health, safety, and welfare, the Commission is currently investigating this ingredient," the agency said in a bulletin Friday. "At this time, the Commission is not exercising its authority to issue a product recall or limit the sale of specific products or product categories. Instead, this bulletin is intended to inform the public of its active and ongoing investigation into this ingredient."

The 1906 Midnight Drops are sold as a sedative at dispensaries in six states, including Arizona, Oklahoma, Illinois and Michigan.
