Cinema-Worcester Kicks Off Spring Series With Ukraine Benefit
The local film series will also debut a Jimi Hendrix documentary, a Cannes Film Festival winner and a Colin Farrell drama.

WORCESTER, MA — The Cinema-Worcester film series will kick off its spring season in May with a showing of a Ukrainian film that will raise money for a war relief fund.
The film series will screen "The Guide" on May 6, directed by prominent Ukrainain director Oles Sanin. Proceeds from the screening will go to the Ukraine Relief Fund.
"The story of this two-hour drama is set in the 1930s and revolves around an American boy who is visiting Ukraine with his father. Young Peter becomes caught up in events connected to Soviet efforts to exterminate millions of Ukrainians," Cinema-Worcester said of the film.

"The film presents Hendrix — joined by bassist Billy Cox and drummer Mitch Mitchell — at the height of his powers, playing flawlessly against a stunning natural backdrop. Included are breathtaking renditions of "Foxey Lady," "Purple Haze," and Voodoo Child (Slight Return)," as well as then-unreleased songs like "Dolly Dagger" and "Freedom" that showcased the new direction Hendrix was moving toward."
"After Yang" on June 17
"When his young daughter's beloved companion — an android named Yang — malfunctions, Jake (Colin Farrell) searches for a way to repair him. In the process, Jake discovers the life that has been passing in front of him, reconnecting with his wife (Jodie Turner-Smith) and daughter across a distance he didn't know was there."
Cinema-Worcester is a moving community theater that brings foreign and independent films to the city. Along with Cinema 320 at Clark University, Cinema-Worcester is the only way to see movies on the big screen in the city following the closure of the Showcase Cinemas theater last summer.
