Free Summer Meals Available For Worcester Kids And Teens

The Worcester Public Schools Summer Eats program is scheduled to run through Aug. 15.

WORCESTER, MA — Free meals will be available across Worcester this summer for children and teens while school is out.

The Summer Eats Program is offering free meals for children and teens 18 years old and younger at parks, pools, libraries, schools and neighborhood sites beginning Jun. 23. The program is sponsored by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Worcester Public Schools Nutrition Department.

The WPS Summer Eats program is scheduled to run through Aug. 15, with mobile nutrition vehicles offering meals Monday through Friday at locations around the city.

WPS said some mobile meal services will continue through Aug. 21, and families should check the district’s daily schedule for the latest site times and locations. Plus, there will be no meal service on July 3.

Summer Eats is a federally funded nutrition program that provides children and teens with free meals and snacks during the summer months, when school meals are not available. The program is open to all children and teens 18 and under, regardless of where they live or what school they attend.

Some Summer Eats sites may also offer activities or programming, but that varies by location.

About 1,100 children eat meals through the Summer Eats program in Worcester, according to WPS.

Project Bread, which helps administer the program, says meals must be eaten on site, and caregivers are not allowed to pick up meals and take them home for children.

Families can check the latest Worcester meal delivery schedule on the Worcester Public Schools Summer Eats page. The district said site locations and serving times may change, and its website will have the most current schedule. Project Bread also offers a statewide Summer Eats meal site finder.
