It's Hank and Walter on Worcester: New Podcast for the City

Radio personality Hank Stolz and Worcester Magazine editor Walter Bird have teamed up to take a fresh look at Worcester.

WORCESTER, MA -- Both outspoken, both talkative and opinionated (perhaps one a little more than the other), Hank Stolz and Walter Bird, Jr., have teamed up to launch a new podcast that focuses on the people, places and things in Worcester.

Stolz, a longtime radio personality and host on WCRN 830 AM radio and Charter TV3, and Bird, Jr., editor at Worcester Magazine, are hosting a new podcast called Hank and Walter on Worcester, and the latest can be found here.

Now loaded to SoundCloud, it will be available through iTunes soon.

The duo has launched two casts so far, and Bird says topics will vary - greatly.

“I really would like to have the public listen to our shows and help drive content and discussion,” said Bird, Jr. “So far, we have hit on the school superintendent search, food trucks, the city manager’s contract and Mosaic. We will be inviting state lawmakers on soon to talk budget and other issues. We will focus mostly on politics and government on the local level, but I think you’ll hear us branch out a bit in this presidential year as well.”

Bird and Stolz have known each other for a while, professionally, and Bird has often been a guest on The Hank Stolz Experience on Charter TV3 and also on his morning radio show. Bird said Stolz reached out with the idea of doing a podcast, and “it was pretty neat timing because we had been talking about doing something like that online.”

“We really just went in a little blind our first show, and worked out the kinks,” said Bird. “We had Councilor Mike Gaffney on the second episode, and I think it went very well. Hank, obviously, is the consummate professional. He’s one of the best in the business.”

Bird is also a guest on “Rosen’s Roundtable” with Councilors Gary Rosen and Moe Bergman and resident Gary Vecchio on WCCA-TV.

“So, given our relationship and the experience Hank brings, along with my modest dip into the waters of TV and radio, this was really exciting,” said Bird. “I have high hopes for it as far as ’Hank and Walter on Worcester’ becoming one of those ’must listen to’ programs. That’s a tall order, because there are so many viable news platforms out there in Worcester right now. I think we are both jazzed about this and hopeful that listeners will tune in.”
