Marcotte Murder: Police Seize Video of Bruised, Scratched Man Nearby

Breaking: Authorities are reportedly reviewing footage they obtained from Wachusett Mountain, a few miles from where Marcotte was murdered.

PRINCETON, MA — Video surveillance footage and witness accounts place a scratched and bruised man, along with a woman, at Wachusett Mountain in Princeton not long after the murder of Vanessa Marcotte occurred, the Daily Mail is reporting.

The ski resort is located about 10 minutes away from Brooks Station Road, where the 27-year-old Google employee was out for a jog while visiting her mom on Sunday.

On Thursday afternoon, Worcester District Attorney Joe Early Jr. told reporters "we have made some progress in the case" during an update on the investigation of the murder of Marcotte.

On Friday afternoon, a spokesperson for the district attorney's office told WHDH Channel 7 news reporter Steve Cooper that there would be no official update on the murder on this day. WCVB-TV News said on its Friday evening report that a DNA sample had been submitted of a "person of interest" in the case.

At the press conference Thursday, Early said investigators believe there was a struggle between Marcotte and her killer, whom they believe to be male, that may have resulted in the killer receiving injuries, including scratches, cuts, scrapes and bruises. They also pared down the time frame of the homicide to 1-3 p.m. on Sunday.

Marcotte, an employee at Google's New York City office and Boston University alumna, went missing during a jog while visiting her mother in Princeton on Aug. 7. A K-9 police dog found Marcotte's body about a half-mile from her mother's home Sunday night, and investigators say she was last seen on Brooks Station Road that afternoon.

Among the tips is "unsettling" information from Wachusett Mountain. General Manager David Crowley told the Daily Mail Online that the resort was asked to provide footage. Crowley said a man and woman were at the resort around 2 p.m. and said they had been in a motorcycle crash. Crowley told the Daily Mail they went on to explain that the ambulance driver told them to go to the resort to clean up. Crowley's employee found the advice odd, said the Daily Mail.
