stART on the Street Co-Director Wins Erskine Award for Arts and Culture

The YWCA's annual award acknowledges outstanding women of distinction in the Worcester area.

WORCESTER, MA — Long a fixture and enthusiast for the Worcester arts scene, Tina Zlody poured that enthusiasm and support of the city into co-founding stART on the Street in 2002.

Starting on Main Street, the main event now packs a long stretch of Park Ave. every September. stART on the Street, a celebration of the arts with vendors, performances, music and food, also has a spring version in the Canal District and a holiday version at Union Station.

Zlody's also the events coordinator for the Performing Arts Department at Clark University.

The YWCA Central Massachusetts recognizes Zlody with its Katharine F. Erskine Award for Women. Zlody found out with a phone call on Wednesday that she had won the award in the arts and culture category.

"I'm truly moved," she wrote on her Facebook page. "Thanks to those who nominated me for they also inspire me."

Erskine Awards are also given in the categories of business and law, education, health science and technology and social service and government.

The YWCA Central Massachusetts describes the Erskine Award as one for a woman who "shows commitment to the YWCA mission: eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all – and meet the following criteria:
