Sudbury Seeks Resident Input for New Open Space & Recreation Plan
An upcoming forum will outline the process for updating Sudbury's Open Space & Recreation Plan.

SUDBURY, MA — Sudbury is set to begin updating its Open Space and Recreation Plan, and is looking for resident input before it starts
Sudbury's Open Space and Recreation Plan will ultimately detail how the town will prioritize natural resource protection, land preservation, recreational programming, and recreational land development. A 2026 Town Forum on Thursday, Feb. 26, will cover the what, why, and when of this plan.
The forum will feature several panelists from Sudbury town departments. These include Director of Planning and Community Development Adam Burney; Conservation Coordinator Lori Capone; Director of Health and Community Services Vivian Zeng; and Interim Director of Park and Recreation and Aquatics Amy Hamilton.

The town said that an Open Space and Recreation Plan will help identify key goals for open space parcels and outline a path to achieve them.

Potential goals include protecting the town’s water supply and wildlife, preserving its character, and providing opportunities for active and passive recreation. The plan also aims to develop trail linkages for non-motorized recreation and maintain town-owned lands for residents' enjoyment.

Sudbury has developed plans in the past, including the 2009-2013 Open Space and Recreation Plan and the 1997-2002 Open Space and Recreation Plan. The upcoming forum marks the initial step in creating the next iteration of this important town document.
