UMass Tops State Hospital List: U.S. News and World Report's New Rankings

The list, released on Tuesday, ranks the top 13 hospitals in the state.

WORCESTER, MA— Massachusetts holds claim to two of the best hospitals in the country, according to U.S. News and World Report's latest rankings, out Tuesday.

The best hospitals list also names the top ones in Massachusetts, looking at how each performs across different specialties, procedures and conditions. Among the list is UMass Medical Center, which ranks at No. 7 in the state, tied with South Shore Hospital. The hospital ranked nationallyas "high performing" in the gastroenterology/GI and nephrology categories.

Hospitals that scored high in those categories were compiled into a top-line ranking called the "Honor Roll," made up of the top 20 hospitals in the country. On that list from Massachusetts are Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, at No. 3, and Boston's Brigham and Women's Hospital, at No. 13.

  8. UMass Memorial Medical Center, Worcester (tied with no. 7)
  9. Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis (tie)
  10. Winchester Hospital, Winchester (tie)
  11. Boston Medical Center, Boston
  12. Lowell General Hospital, Lowell (tie)
  13. North Shore Medical Center, Salem (tie)
