Want A Free DCU Center Seat? Arena Giving Them Away Amid Renovation

Worcester's DCU Center is replacing about 12,000 seats. That means the old ones are up for grabs.

WORCESTER, MA — If you remember where you sat for an Aerosmith concert, a Grave Digger appearance, or the 2015 Donald Trump rally, you'll soon have a chance to take home your DCU Center seat for free.

The DCU Center this week finalized a deal to replace about 12,000 fixed seats inside the 40-year-old arena, formerly known as the Worcester Centrum. The replacement seats will be installed across all three levels of the arena.

According to arena operator ASM Global, the old beige seats will be given away in two ways: Worcester Railers season ticket holders will have first dibs on taking home their seats; and then this summer, anyone else will be able to get a free seat. Details will be forthcoming on the DCU Center Facebook page. Any seat not taken fans will be recycled.

The arena's new seats will be an upgrade. The 100-level seats will be colored blue in honor of the Railers main color, and the 200 and 300-level seats will be black. Dark seat colors are preferred by production companies that film events inside arenas. The seats will also have cushioning and cupholders.

Following the installation of the new fixed seats, the arena plans to replace about 3,000 floor chairs used during concerts and similar events.

ASM Global operates the DCU Center on behalf of the city of Worcester, which owns the building. The new seats will be paid for by the District Improvement Fund, a special taxing district around the arena that collects sales, meal and hotel tax revenue to maintain and improve the DCU Center.
