WATCH: Did You Miss Sam James Singing The National Anthem at the Pats Game?

Worcester's own Sam James called it "the best day ever,' having the honor of singing the National Anthem at the Patriots game on Sunday.

WORCESTER, MA — Singer-songwriter Sam James can etch another notch in his belt of notoriety. Those in the Woo have had the privilege of hearing and seeing James around the city for years. Then his pop voice spread across the country when he made it through the first round on a season of The Voice.

His single "It Never Happens" shot to No. 5 on iTunes, and "Love Hangover" premiered on Sirius radio in September.

Now, some 65,000 more got a chance to hear James this weekend, in a big way. First, he cooked up the chilly crowd at Worcester's Festival of Lights celebration on Friday, and then took the mic at Gillette Stadium to sing "The Star Spangled Banner" to kick off the Patriots-Rams game on Sunday.

"It was an awesome time," James told Patch. "My manager had reached out to them a while ago, and with my album doing well, and then three weeks ago the NFL used one of my songs in a promo. So it all fell together."
