Worcester Man Drowns At Turners Falls Rock Dam
Authorities said there was no indication of foul play.
WORCESTER, MA — A Worcester man died Saturday after first responders were called to a reported drowning in the Connecticut River, authorities said.
Emergency crews were dispatched at about 6 p.m. to the area of Migratory Way in Turners Falls, commonly known as the Rock Dam, after a report that a person had drowned. First responders recovered 21-year-old Hermes Mariano Almonte Villar from the water and took him to Baystate Franklin Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities said there was no indication of foul play. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the official cause of death.
The investigation remains active and is being handled by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section and the Montague Police Department.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and Turners Falls Fire Department assisted with the recovery.
