Worcester Red Sox Looking To Address Homelessness Near Polar Park: Report

Team leaders plan to meet with the city, according to Spectrum News 1.

WORCESTER, MA — Worcester’s baseball team has plans to address homelessness in the Canal District.

The Worcester Red Sox are planning to meet with city leaders, according to Spectrum News 1. This comes amid complaints and reports about homelessness from fans.

Dr. Charles Steinberg, the team’s president, told Spectrum News 1 that he feels sympathy for unhoused people and concerned families who walk through the area under the Green Street Bridge.

Steinberg hopes that a meeting with the city will help find a solution.

“Our question is, how can we best help? It’s a societal problem, it’s not a Worcester problem,” Steinberg told Spectrum News 1. “If we are to be Worcester’s front door, we need to make sure we’re upholding our role as caretakers of that doorway.”
